In The foreground we see Prosenjit Chatterjee wearing a black T-shirt on which printed “High definition: 1. See Film” and in the background a huge poster of Ritwick Ghatak’s “Jukti Takko Aar Gappo”.
This is not only a particular frame of Bappaditya Bandyopadhyay’s latest film “House Full”, but also the crux of the entire film. The film suffers from this dichotomy throughout. Nikhil (Prosenjit) is a film makers like Bappaditya himself, because we see the posters of Bappaditya’s earlier films “Kaanta Taar”, “Kaal” in the office of Nikhil and the posters declares those films were directed by Nikhil. So, it can be easily said that this film is somehow an autobiographical and Nikhil is none other than Bappaditya Himself.
Nikhil earlier films were all flops. He is totally financially broke and emotionally too. His wife leaves him, but not because he is a flop director, but because there are women in Nikhil’s wife. So Nikhil decides to make a romantic film, which will bring back Nikhil’s financial status and also a stability in life. He and his side kick hope this will create a havoc success in the box office.
The remaining part of the film is the journey of Nikhil’s making of the new film. So it’s a film-within-a film kind of thing. But we don’t know what kind of film Nikhil is going to make. The only thing we understand that there would be six bed scenes in the film and one of bed scene will be shot in a Jungle in a magic light, as because Nikhil is very fussy about the tonal quality of the frames.
The new film also flop and at the end in a sur-realistic magic light scene we see Nikhil and his side kick are in a sea-shore where a projector machine throws the last sequence of his new film in a scene and they discuss about how to make a frame- to-frame “Copy and paste” film from a super-hit south Indian cinema.
Though Nikhil makes a romantic film, somehow or other terrorism trickles in just like it was in his earlier film “Kaanta Taar”.
Bappa wanted to convince the audience that Nikhil’s earlier films flopped only because it reflects reality. Nikhil’s “Kaanta Taar”’s film- incidence, which were considered unrealistic, happen exactly the same way in his real life. While making the romantic film. So an easy conclusion- audience refuses reality on screen, rather they prefer absurd-unrealistic south Indian trash films.
But why then Nikhil’s new film which is totally Sur-realistic in nature fails? Would Bappa answer this in his next film?
Prosenjit did a remarkable job in the role of Nikhil. The other casts are Ushashi Chakraborty, Sreelekha Mitra, Rwita Dutta Chakraborty, Rachna and Rimjhim Gupta. Kaya’s music is good so as the theme music by avijit.
