Bunty (Aditya Roy Kapoor) believes that if his parents' marriage had been a love marriage, his life would have been perfect; it was an arranged marriage, so his father Kishen (Akshay Kumar) does not get along with his mother Mala (Aishwarya Rai). Bunty always runs away from his girlfriend, Tanya (Sudeepa Singh), whenever she mentions marriage; he has developed a marriage phobia due to his parents' arguments. One day, Tanya's grandfather, Professor Anthony Gonsalves (Randhir Kapoor), gives him the choice to either marry Tanya or forget her forever. Bunty sneaks in and steals the Professor's time machine late at night to transport himself to the 1970s. He will not leave until he makes his parents' marriage a love story. Upon reaching the 1970s, he finds that it is not as easy as he thought. He tries all he can to create friendship between the two.
